CityX - Me, Swansea

Art project 2024/25

CityX has now visited 18 cities worldwide. The drawing performances CityX - Me, Swansea (Welsh: Abertawe) took place in Swansea, Wales, in October 2024. During the drawing sessions, participants were encouraged to reflect on their city and to represent it in a simple way through drawing. The medium of drawing served as a means of communication, allowing cultural knowledge, feelings, and lifestyles to be conveyed regardless of language barriers.

The artist then organized the collected images according to themes and motifs in her studio in Germany. No two drawings in the collection were alike, but upon closer inspection, it became clear that many concerns and motifs were repeated. Similar to the way people drew, the images were combined into 10 pictographic images using computer programs. The art project was funded by the Ministry of Science, Research and the Arts of Baden-Württemberg, Wales Arts International, and the Elysium Gallery in Swansea. The works will be exhibited at the ABTART Gallery in Stuttgart, at the Abendakademie in Mannheim (Germany) and in autumn 2025 at the Elysium Gallery in Swansea, UK.
